God Desires Better For Us

Am I the only one who gets sick from eating too much snack food?

As I laid in the bed dealing with the repercussions of my poor decisions, I was reminded of God and His goodness. Kind of weird timing right? Well, let’s just say God talks to me in some weird ways sometimes, weird to others that is.

Whether it’s the way light peeks through the trees on the hiking trail or how a noise stops at the sound of my husband's voice...God can speak us in the most unexpected ways! And no, you’re not crazy to think He's speaking, nor are you "overly spiritual".

In this season I’m learning that I’m not an anomaly but rather that God has created me in a way that I may see a things or discern things that others who are in the very same space...don’t and that’s okay. I’m the one who is meant to hear it, see it, and discern it.

He’s built me to not just recognize these things but to contend for his will on this earth.

Boy, did I feel the weight of that statement!

Well I say all that to say that, it may sound strange to some, but in my moment of sickness due to snack overload, God showed me something. He showed me how we crave things that aren’t necessarily good for us. Sure some TV here and there is fine but watching it all day isn’t beneficial, in fact it’s harmful to us and our productivity.

There are things that seem like a good idea to us, that God has said no to. And we pout because we want that “candy” or “chips” and can’t for the life of us understand why God would withhold something that is satisfying and desirable. We think it would just be better if were able to do xyz. But God knows something we don’t...that those things we so badly desire aren’t good for us.

They give temporary satisfaction and dole out consequences we aren’t prepared for and that we will regret!

Sometimes we even know the consequences, but desire has given us tunnel vision, leaving no room for concern about what will come AFTERWARDS. I’ll admit it, that was me today! I know without a shadow of a doubt that I CANNOT handle eating all those darn chips...but I wanted them! I focused on the satisfaction my taste buds would receive over the torment, yes torment, my body would be plagued with.

I say all this as I lay in the bed FINALLY free of my snack food coma! I felt absolutely horrible, but once I began to focus on what God showed me I no longer felt the aches, the urge to barf, or the fear of what would come next.

What should you do if you find yourself in the same situation (food or otherwise):

  1. Hone in on what God is saying

  2. Focus on God’s love for you...He wants to see you healed and whole, instead of in the pain you’re in right now

  3. Ask God for guidance, “what’s the next step and how to do I keep from continuing in the same cycle?”

  4. Extend grace...to yourself. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus!

Don’t go beating yourself up more, you’re already in pain. Instead foster an environment that gives room to grow and learn. A part of that is getting around like minded people:

  • who will love you with the love of Christ

  • who will challenge you to be better

  • who will go before God on your behalf

  • who aren't afraid nor deterred by your not so pretty side...we all have one

Being around flawed people ( we all are) who love you down and speak to who you are not what you've done nor who you've shrunk down to be...but who God created you to be, will completely transform your life. I'm speaking from experience!

Well where the heck do you find these people? Everywhere! Although they are everywhere ( whether you see them or not) it's important to begin to ask God for guidance on who he desires to plant in your life right now. Asking him brings yourself in agreement with his will and effectively partners with him for what He already desires to do in your life! There's no better partnership than one with God! 🙌

What do you do next? Get still and listen...don't move until God tells you to...don't go seeking those relationships on your own....wait to hear God's voice on the matter.

Love y’all and as always, feel free to drop those prayer requests. I’d love to stand in agreement with you!
